February 2023 ICDP webinar: Tyres: an area of opportunity to avoid driving off the road in tomorrow's aftermarket?

Although tyres are products which are difficult to handle, as well as to sell profitably, they are and will remain a vital part of the aftermarket.  After an oil change, tyre replacement is one of the main reasons for a car to visit a workshop, if not the main reason for some types of operator.  For this reason, all repairers, whether OEM-franchised, independent, members of fast-fit and auto-centre chains, and not forgetting tyre specialists, see this part of the aftermarket as a ‘must have’, even though they experience mixed fortunes there.

In the first part of our webinar, we looked at the current dynamics of the tyre distribution business, and at how the market currently divides amongst the different operators in a selection of European countries.

As car parc electrification accelerates ahead of the EU’s 2035 ‘Fit for 55’ deadline, bringing with it a decline in the volume of oil changes, tyre replacement looks set to become the main reason for a workshop visit.  In the second part of the webinar, we drew on our aftermarket simulation models to look at the future prospects both for the overall tyre market, and for the different operators competing for their slice of the business.
